Special Meeting & Vote of the General Council (Mar. 26)

Saturday, March 26, 10:30 a.m – 12:00 p.m.*

Indoors at the Ottawa Tribe Powwow Grounds located at 11400 S. 613 Rd, Miami, OK 74354.  The Grounds are located 5 miles east and 1 mile south of Miami, OK. 

*Voting will begin as soon as a quorum of 25 members of the general tribal membership eligible to vote is established.

Background – On February 7, the Shawnee Tribe Business Council unanimously passed Resolution R-02-07-2022-C requesting the Chief to call a special meeting of the Tribal Council for the purpose of a Special Constitutional Amendment Vote on March 26, 2022.

Citizens will vote on the adoption of an amendment to Article XII of the Shawnee Tribe Constitution is to rectify issues between the Shawnee Tribe Elections Act and the calendar years council terms are set to begin and end. These issues were presented and discussed during the Virtual Community Meetings held by the Business Council on February 10 & 12. All citizens eligible to vote will receive a sample ballot in the mail. Please make sure your address is up-to-date by contacting enrollment@shawnee-tribe.com or completing the change of address form here.
