Virtual Community Meetings: Shawnee Tribe Constitution (Feb. 10)
Shawnee Tribe Constitution and Elections Act Warrant Discussion, Special Amendment Vote from the General Council
The Shawnee Tribe Business Council has determined that an error made in 2014 regarding the council seats put up for election that September has resulted in an inconsistency with the Shawnee Tribe Elections Act. It is likely that this error arose due to a lack of clarity and specificity in the language of Elections Act.
The Business Council is calling for special community discussions and a special constitutional amendment vote to explain the discrepancy, the Council’s proposed solutions, and answer any questions or concerns the General Council may have about rectifying this issue.
In the November/December Shawnee Journal mailing, the Tribe asked citizens to save the dates February 5, 10 and 12 for these special community meetings. Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and the Tribe’s current protocols to reduce the risk of spread, these meetings will now be held exclusively on Zoom:
Thursday, February 10 – 6:00 pm CST
Saturday, February 12 – 1:00 pm CST
Please register to attend one of these meetings using the links above. A recording of the meeting will be available on the Shawnee Tribe Youtube channel for those unable to attend. If you know of a citizen without internet access who would like to dial in from a telephone, please contact Communications & Media Coordinator Princella RedCorn at (918) 542-2441, x136.
