Cherokee Nation, Shawnee Tribe Join To Designate Cultural Preserve In Northeast Oklahoma
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Chief of the Shawnee Tribe Benjamin Barnes signed a Memorandum of Agreement Friday designating the cultural preserve near the town of White Oak in Craig County.
On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, the Shawnee Tribe will move back into Phase 2 of a safe reopening plan. Attached is the updated Tribal Reopening Amidst COVID-19 Safely (TRACS) policy.
To commemorate the day of Tecumseh’s death at the Battle of the Thames and honor his courageous life of service to the Shawnee people and Indian Country at large, the Shawnee Tribe leadership will officially declare October 5th.
