GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW NORTHEASTERN TRIBAL HEALTH SYSTEM WELLNESS CENTER

Miami, OK — Business Council Secretary Carolyn Foster and Rosanna Dobbs, Shawnee Tribe Section 106 Manager, were in attendance at the February 23 groundbreaking for the new Northeastern Tribal Health System (NTHS) Wellness Center.
“This is an exciting and needed addition to the services our clinic currently offers,” said Rosanna Dobbs, who also serves as an alternate on the governing board for NTHS.
The new wellness center will be located at 7600 S. Highway 69A, next to the current NTHS facility. It will feature a full-size gymnasium and basketball court, a 3,750 square-foot indoor swimming pool holding 154,000 gallons of water, comprehensive physical therapy and rehabilitation services, exercise and weightlifting rooms, along with private exam and treatment spaces. Additionally, it will house offices to support the dedicated NTHS staff in their mission to advocate for and improve health outcomes for tribal citizens.
The Northeastern Health System is operated by a consortium of eight tribes with a governing board of appointed representatives from each of those tribes; Cherokee, Miami, Modoc, Ottawa, Peoria, Quapaw, Shawnee and Seneca-Cayuga. Their focus is to provide the broadest scope of high-quality healthcare services possible within the available resources.
This is a significant investment in the health and well-being of the surrounding Native American community. The projected outlook of the completion timeline is before the end of 2024.
